If you dream of sharing your vows in the rolling mountains of North Georgia, Cloudland Canyon State park may be perfect for you! This state park has over 60 miles of trails, waterfalls, overlooks, and a variety of activities within the park that are perfect for those who want to have an epic elopement day!
Here’s everything you need to know about having your intimate elopement in Cloudland Canyon State Park!
The awesome thing about eloping in Cloudland Canyon State Park is that you do not need a permit! All you will need is a parking pass that is $5- and you’re good to go! Cloudland Canyon State Park does have a limit of one wedding per day, so if you’re planning on having a legal ceremony and/ or guests, it’s best to call ahead of time and reserve your date!
You can reserve your date on their website here, or call the park office at 706-657-4050.
Spring (March- April) and Fall (September- October) are, in my opinion, the best time to elope in Cloudland Canyon State Park! In the summer months, you can not only expect larger crowds, but also humidity, snakes, and bugs. It’s very rare to see snow in North Georgia, so planning a winter elopement will look less like a winter wonderland, and more like bone-chilling winds and dead trees (Just keeping it real.) The Spring and Fall will offer gorgeous colors, tolerable weather, and less park guests. (Keep in mind that April is the rainiest month of the year in North Georgia, so make sure to plan accordingly!)
Regardless of the time of year, I always recommend visiting this state park on a weekday if possible. The park always has lots of guests, especially at the main overlook and waterfalls.
I have two places in Cloudland Canyon that are my favorite for elopements- the main overlook, and Cherokee Falls! There are two waterfalls in Cloudland Canyon State Park, which are both only a 25 minute walk from the main overlook! The main overlook gives a stunning view of the mountains and canyon, and at sunset- it is absolutely beautiful!
One thing to note about hiking to the waterfalls, is there are over 600 steps! The hike back to the top can be draining, so make sure you bring plenty of water and take as many stops as you need!
While the number of steps can be intimidating, I promise- the waterfall is so worth it! The waterfalls are sure to add a romantic vibe to your Cloudland Canyon elopement!
Sunrise and sunset are beautiful from the overlook! If you’re planning to hike to the waterfall, I recommend going 2-3 hours after sunrise, or 2-3 hours before sunset. Since the waterfall is down in the canyon, the sunlight takes longer to hit the area, and the light fades quicker. All images shown are taken between 6:00- 8:00pm in April.
Your elopement is special, unique, and authentic to you and your partner! If you’re ready to throw out the rulebook and plan the experience of a lifetime, let’s create the wedding day of your wildest dreams!
